Ready to bid? Plenty must go
An auction Wednesday of Vanderburgh County surplus property will include computer and stereo equipment, jewelry, mopeds and baseball cards - but not, as was advertised, historical items from the Old Courthouse. A Sunday newspaper advertisement for the public auction at the Vanderburgh 4-H Center said an original antique jury box, witness stand and banister from the Old Courthouse would be sold. .
Saying good-bye to the past
After more than 10 years in business, Lake Forest Antique Mall, which leases spots to antique dealers, will close Jan. 31. The 24,000-square-foot store has suffered drops in sales since 2004. Owners Steve and Dennie Chaya attribute the loss of business to the increase of eBay shoppers and sellers. It's harder to find merchandise, and antiques are more costly, especially in Europe. "We're really going to miss it," said Moreno Valley dealer Sharon Benson said as she purchased a rhinestone belt buckle and a small jeweled perfume bottle. "You can always find one of everything," The Lake Forest Antique Mall is facing the same problems as other similar businesses. Limited supplies, a weak dollar and Internet auction sites have hurt the industry.
Bears at home for weekend pair
(HERSHEY, PA) - The Bears are back on home ice for both Saturday and Sunday games. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers comes to Chocolate Town on Saturday, January 20, for a 7 p.m. puck drop. It's "Hershey Federal Credit Union Night" and the first 5,000 fans will receive a 22-ounce stadium cup-compliments of Hershey Federal Credit Union. On Sunday, January 21, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins come to Giant Center for a 5 p.m. face off. It's "Antique Appraisal Night", and each fan gets one free antique appraisal from art historian and antiques appraiser, Dr. Lori. Plus, it's "Sports Night". Come out and celebrate with the Bears, the Washington Capitals and many other local sports teams and their mascots. Immediately following Sunday's game there will be an autograph signing in the Club Lounge.
