Experts: Bump Key Burglaries A Growing Threat

Across the nation, residents are coming home to find their homes and apartments have been burglarized, but the windows and doors are intact and in place -- almost as if someone had a key.

What the robbers have is the next best thing.

A bump key is specially made so that when it's tapped, it can jiggle the pins inside a lock and open it. .

Monteagle Hosts 2nd Annual Fog Fest

The usual weather troublespot this time of year of Monteagle kicked off its second annual Fog Fest. The three day festival gives local residents and tourists the opportunity to shop and learn about the area all weekend long. Some events planned include a "giant" snake lesson, throwing pottery, wine tasting, live music each night along with numerous discounts at area antique and other stores atop the mountain.

The typical down time of the year is during the winter for businesses, and this festival brings in "tons of people into town" says David Brewer, owner of The Jungle Room. If you'd like more information about this weekends festival click here: Monteagle Chamber of Commerce

Antique pieces bring city's past to light

As I was putting back the little knick knacks that had all come off our walls during construction, I came across a neat object d'art that I didn't realize I had. It was a small advertising mirror from Enna Jetticks. On the advertising side it said that this woman's dress shop was next door to the Hoosier Theatre, and from the way the two stylish women were dressed, the piece looks to be from the 1930s.It's amazing what one finds when one cleans house. Judge Crater may be in my basement.Santa also brought me a wonderful celluloid advertising mirror from the Whiting Photography Studio at 532 Indianapolis Blvd. and the dapper gentleman on the opposite side looks to be from the 1920s.I have a number of these photo mirrors. My Santa shops at Just Little Things, a great antique stores here on 119th Street where you never know what you'll find. The Whiting-Robertsdale Historical Society will have its first meeting since September at 1 p.m.
