Ralph Ray spent much of his Ringgold, Ga., childhood in his grandparents next-door dwelling. He later bought the Dutch Colonial-style house from his mother who inherited it at the, older couples death. Since his 1992 occupancy, he has restored the original residence and made two major additions that have increased the size of the house to 3,000 square feet. But because his projects resolutely respected the past, much about the house still evokes the home his ancestors built 70 years ago for $5,000. "It was one of the first homes in the area built with an FHA (Federal Housing Administration ) loan, and my grandfather built it to FHA specs, to the letter," said Mr. Ray, manager of Belk Department Store at Northgate Mall in Hixson. "Weve tried very hard to keep the integrity of the house." When he purchased it, the home "was structurally sound," according to Mr.

Good on you Kylie! It's the Frenchman's loss
GOOD on you Kylie! This was the secret chorus that greeted the vision of Kylie Minogue arriving at the Victoria and Albert Museum this week, looking dazzling in a purple Dolce & Gabanna evening gown and serious jewels. Never mind surviving cancer, Kylie has now triumphed over her love rat of a boyfriend. Someone stick the Gloria Gaynor on and crack open the Lambrini. This girl is now a heroine to the sisterhood. The best bit about seeing Kylie out on the razz on Tuesday night wasn't simply that it's the best she's looked in months - the break-up diet does wonders for the face and figure - but the news of what she did with the stuff belonging to "The Frenchman", as she now apparently waspishly refers to Olivier Martinez. Kylie is said to have gathered up all his belongings from her homes in London and Sydney and Fed-Exed them to him.
Timber Heritage Association 'miracle'
I believe in miracles. I also believe that out of crisis can come opportunities, if you don't give up. At the end of last year, my beliefs were reaffirmed. For over three decades, the Timber Heritage Association has been saving and collecting antique pieces and artifacts from Humboldt County's past. This is a very unique and important collection, as there are few places that have a collection of timber history machinery, especially a collection that is from the local area. A year ago, my worst nightmare came to light: The site where this collection has been stored for three decades was being sold, and thousands of tons of artifacts would have to be moved -- somewhere. Where, we didn't know yet. Woody Murphy stepped up to the plate, offering his site at Fields Landing. Then, Scott Farley with Kernen Construction stepped forward, loaning us a heavy loader and supplying some trucking.
Artists turn to Baroque period for inspiration FINE ART & ANTIQUES ...
MANY ARTISTS AGREE that new artwork is often inspired by the work of artists of the past. Throughout history artists have looked to earlier periods for inspiration to create meaningful works of art that chronicle contemporary issues and society. Some contemporary artists are now looking to the Baroque to inform their new work. The art historical period known as the Baroque lasted from about 1580 through the 17th century. Considered a Golden Age of artistic production in France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, the historical period's major events include the Reformation (1517), the Council of Trent (1545-63), the Counter Reformation (1563) and the Peace of Westphalia (1648), all of which served to shape western history and, as a result, its fine art. The Baroque was the period whnewen French King Louis XIV supervised the building of the Palace and gardens at Versailles and Italian master Gianlorenzo Bernini put the finishing touches on St.
